Albertus Magnus men's basketball senior Ray Askew (Hamden, Conn.) has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Player of the Week as announced Tuesday evening. Askew was also named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week in addition to being named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week.
This week's ECAC honor marks Askew's third of the season, while he has been named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week a total of four times this season. Askew has also been named the GNAC Player of the Week three times in 2011-12, including the past two weeks.
Askew led Albertus to a 2-0 showing last week as the Falcons became the first men's basketball program in GNAC history to finish undefeated in conference action. The senior scored 57 points and averaged 28.5 points per game as he averaged 12.5 rebounds, while pulling down 25 boards on the week. He shot 51.4-percent from the floor to lead the Falcons on the week as well.
With 2,210 career points, Askew is now just 24 points shy of tying the Albertus Magnus men's basketball record of 2,234 set by Tim Russell '05.
Askew and the Falcons will host Emerson on Tuesday night in GNAC Tournament quarterfinal action. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
